Bulletin

X-ray flux remained below C level with Catania groups 16 and 17 (NOAA AR 2740 and 2741) remaining inactive. X-ray flux is expected to remain below C level.

No new Earth directed CME's have been observed in coronagaph data.

Solar proton flux levels were at background values and are expected to remain so.

Solar wind saw the expected weak solar wind increase. Solar wind speed reached just over 390 km/s before coming down again to current levels around 325 km/s. Total magnetic field was around 8nT at the start of the period but quickly recovered to nominal values around 4nT with Bz variable and the phi angle in the negative sector. Solar wind is expected to become disturbed from this afternoon onwards by the arrival of the May 6 CME though solar wind speed should not become too much increased.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled (NOAA Kp 1-2, local K Dourbes 0-3). Geomagnetic conditions may reach minor storm levels due to the expected CME arrival.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 028, based on 20 stations.
