Bulletin

Currently the solar activity is low. Only a few C-class flares were observed originating from NOAA AR 2146. A filament located from N60W35 to N15W35 erupted from 15 UT on August 28 onwards. This eruption is associated with a faint CME visible in SOHO/LASCO C2 from 15:48 UT on. A halo CME was observed in SOHO/LASCO C2 and STEREO B/COR2 imagery, with first measurements at 17:36 UT and 17:54 UT respectively. This CME is related to a backsided event. None of these CMEs is Earth directed. Flaring activity is expected to remain low for the next 48 hours. The magnitude of the interplanetary magnetic field (measured by ACE) has declined to about 7 nT with a fluctuating Bz component. The solar wind speed increased to currently 450 km/s. Geomagnetic conditions currently are at unsettled (local K up to 3 at Dourbes) to minor storm levels (NOAA Kp up to 5). Unsettled to active conditions are expected for the remainder of the day and tomorrow due to combined effects from the ICME and increasing solar wind speed related to the equatorial coronal hole.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 047, based on 14 stations.
