Bulletin

The strongest, out of six C-class flares reported in the last 24 hours, was the C8.7 flare which peaked at 04:46 UT this morning. This long duration flare originating from the Catania sunspot group 13 (NOAA AR 2305) was accompanied by coronal dimming and a post-eruption arcade observed by SDO/AIA. We expect C-class flares and possibly also an isolated M-class flare, in particular from the Catania sunspot group 13 (NOAA AR 2305) which is still growing and currently has beta-gamma-delta configuration of its photospheric magnetic field. The full halo CME first seen in the SOHO LASCO C2 field of view at 08:24 UT on March 24 was the back side event, and will therefore not arrive at the Earth. This fast CME, with the projected plane of the sky speed of about 1900 km/s, was possibly associated with the flaring from the NOAA AR 2297 which rotated behind the west solar limb on March 20. The CME was also associated with the gradual increase of the proton >10 MeV fluxes, which started at about 09:00 UT on March 24 had its maximum (0.8 pfu) late on March 24 and it is currently decreasing. The proton level did not reach the event threshold. No Earth directed CMEs were observed during last 24 hours. The Earth is still inside the fast solar wind with the speed of about 550 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field continues to be stable with the magnitude of about 5nT. The geomagnetic conditions are currently quiet and we expect quiet to unsettled conditions in the following 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 079, based on 10 stations.
