Bulletin

Solar activity was low with no C-class flares reported. We expect the low solar activity to persist in the coming hours with possible isolated C-class flare. No Earth directed CMEs were observed in the last 24 hours.

The solar wind speed is slowly increasing and it currently amounts to about 550 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is still slightly elevated and currently amounts to about 8 nT. Since arrival of the shock wave and the ICME yesterday morning, the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field had long intervals of negative values (down to -10 nT). The strongly negative values of Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field and the fast solar wind induced geomagnetic storm conditions (NOAA reported Kp=6 and a number of Kp=5 intervals and local stations Dourbes and IZMIRAN reported up to K=5). Currently the Bz component is positive however if the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field turns negative we can expect active to unsettled conditions to persist in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 036, based on 17 stations.
