Bulletin

Solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. There have been a few low magnitude B-class flares and no C, or above, class flares. However, a large Active Region (AR) has just rotated into view on the east limb and produced several B-class flares, this region may lead to increased activity. A second region on the south-east limb showed evidence of a failed eruption at 00:30 UT this morning. AR 2401 (Macintosh:Cro/Type:Beta) has remained stable. No evident Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were produced in the past 24 hours. The solar wind speed has been slowly decreasing over the past 24 hours, from 600 to 500 km/s. The total magnetic field has been stable around 5 nT, and the Bz component has fluctuated between +5 nT and -5nT over the past 24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to active over the past 24 hours, with the Local K index (Dourbes) reaching 4 and the Kp index (NOAA) reaching 5 around 15:00 UT on 2015-Aug-17, these conditions are probably caused by a high speed stream created by a geoeffective coronal hole. The continued presence of the coronal hole is likely to cause continued unsettled conditions.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 042, based on 12 stations.
