Bulletin

Solar activity is low, with no C-class flares reported during last 24 hours. The strongest reported flare was B6.8 flare from the Catania sunspot group 6 (NOAA AR 2483). The C-class flares are still possible, but not very probable, in the coming hours. No Earth directed CMEs were observed in the last 24 hours. The Earth is currently inside the fast solar wind with the speed of about 580 km/s. The fast flow from the narrow and elongated low latitude coronal hole (between N12 and N34) which crossed the central meridian in the early morning of January 09, arrived at the Earth at about 12:30 UT on January 11. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is still slightly elevated, currently about 8 nT. Due to the intervals of the negative value of the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (down to -7 nT) in the evening of January 11, disturbed geomagnetic conditions were reported (NOAA reported a Kp =4 and Dourbes reported K=4). Geomagnetic conditions are currently quiet and are expected to remain so in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 040, based on 13 stations.
