Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been very low. The largest flare was a B1.9 class flare, produced by Active Region (AR) 2526 (Macintosh class:Hsx; Mag. type:Alpha), peaking at 23:17 UT yesterday. ARs 2524 (Hsx; Alpha) and 2526 have both remained stable with evidence of small amounts of flux emergence in HMI magnetogram observations. AR 2524 has moved onto the West limb, and will pass out of view in the next couple of days. A small brightening has emerged around S04E20, and HMI observations suggest that a new AR is forming there. A large filament channel is currently extending from the Southeast to solar disk center, but appears stable. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a low probability of C-class flares. The solar wind speed has increased from around 350 to 420 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has slowly increased from around 4 to 13 nT. The Bz component was largely positive, fluctuating between -5 and +9 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-3 (NOAA) and local K index 1-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. There is currently a large positive polarity Northern polar coronal hole in the Western hemisphere, the associated high-speed stream (HSS) is probably the cause of the rising solar wind speed speeds. Speeds may be further enhanced throughout the day and as a consequence may increase geo-activity levels.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 025, based on 21 stations.
