Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. The largest flare was a C1.0 class flare, produced by Active Region (AR) 2546 (Mcintosh class:Cho; Mag. type:Beta), peaking at 14:00 UT yesterday. AR 2544 has rotated over the solar limb. All other ARs have been quiet. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. There have been no Earth directed CMEs detected. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a small probability of C-class flares. The solar wind speed has been slowly increasing from around 450 to 600 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has slowly decreased from 10 to 5 nT. The Bz component fluctuated between -6 and +8 nT, but has been largely positive this morning. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-3 (NOAA) and local K index 1-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. A large Northern positive polar coronal hole is currently positioned in the Western hemisphere of the Sun that may enhance solar wind speeds at the Earth.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 021, based on 13 stations.
