Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been very low. No significant flares have been recorded. All Active Regions (ARs) have shown low levels of activity, however AR 2629 has shown some evidence of flux emergence and cancellation, which may increase flaring activity over the next couple of days. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a low probability of C-class flares and a very low probability of M-class flares. A large negative polarity trans-equatorial coronal hole extending from the Southern pole has moved into the Western hemisphere. The solar wind speed has increased from around 420 to 680 km/s over the past 24 hours, and jumped to around 650 km/s around 07:00 UT this morning. The total magnetic field strength has increased around 10 nT to 17 nT. The Bz component fluctuated between -10 and +10 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-3 (NOAA) and local K index 1-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. The large negative polarity trans-equatorial coronal hole extending from the Southern pole is the likely cause of the increased solar wind speeds experienced at the Earth yesterday evening and this morning, as a consequence Geomagnetic conditions have increased, reaching K index (Dourbes) 4 this morning. Active geomagnetic conditions are expected to persist for the next couple of days.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 034, based on 10 stations.
