Bulletin

In the past 24 hours, no C flares were observed. Very low solar activity (no C flares) is expected in the next 24 hours. A weak filament eruption in the NE quadrant was observed in GONG H alpha and AIA HeII images around 17h UT on March 22. CACTUS detected an associated, narrow CME to the NE in LASCO C2 images around 18:36 UT. This CME is not expected to be geoeffective. Over the past 24 hours, solar wind speed measured by DSCOVR varied between about 550 and 750 km/s, with current values around 550 km/s. The magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field decreased from about 7 to about 3 nT. There were no extended periods with Bz below -5 nT. Unsettled to minor storm conditions (K Dourbes between 3 and 5; NOAA Kp between 4 and 5) were registered in the past 24 hours due to the enhanced solar wind conditions caused by the passage of a high speed stream from a positive coronal hole. The minor geomagnetic storm intervals occurred between 21h on March 22 and 0h UT on March 23. Continued influence from the high speed stream is expected on March 23, with quiet to active geomagnetic levels (K Dourbes < 5) and a chance for minor geomagnetic storm intervals (K Dourbes = 5). On March 24, active periods (K Dourbes = 4) are possible as waning high speed stream influence is expected. Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes < 4) are expected on March 25.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 014, based on 21 stations.
