Bulletin

There are presently no numbered sunspot regions on the visible side of the solar disk. There were no flares reported during last 24 hours and we do not expect any flaring activity in the coming hours. Coronagraph images do not show signatures of the Earth directed CMEs, and the solar protons remained at the background level. The Earth is presently inside the fast solar wind associated with the coronal hole which reached central meridian in the morning of January 09. The present values of the solar wind speed and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude are 580 km/s and 5 nT, respectively. The maximum value of the wind speed during last 24 hours was about 610 km/s and the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field had minimum value of about -12 nT. The arrival of the fast solar wind induced disturbed geomagnetic conditions, NOAA reported Kp=5 early this morning and local station at Dourbes reported only K=3. Presently geomagnetic conditions are quiet to unsettled and although intervals of active conditions are still possible, we expect mostly continuation of the quite to unsettled conditions in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 12 stations.
