Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Catania sunspot groups 5 (NOAA active region 2732) is now turning over the west limb. The visible solar disc becomes spotless and no significant flare is expected.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejection has been observed. The greater than 10 MeV solar protons flux remained at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so.

The Earth is currently under the influence of the slightly enhanced solar wind due to the coronal hole that has reached the central meridian on December 31. The wind speed fluctuated between 480 and 566 km/s; the total magnetic field was below 6.6 nT; and the southward component fluctuated between -6 and 6 nT. The enhanced solar wind conditions are expected to persist as long as Earth remains under the influence of the solar wind associated with the coronal hole.

The geomagnetic conditions were unsettled (Kp and K-Dourbes indices reached 3) and it is expected to remain unsettled as the Earth is currently under the influence of the enhanced solar wind.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 09 stations.
