Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. No significant flares have been recorded. No significant Active Regions (AR) or filament channels are present on the solar disk. The greater-than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels. A negative polarity equatorial coronal hole (CH) has reached W65S15. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. However, a small CME was observed off of the West Solar limb at approximately 17:00 UT on 27-Feb-2019, the source region is not clear, and is expected to be back-sided, it is not expected to affect the Earth.

Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels.

The solar wind speed has increased from 300 and 525 km/s (DSCOVR) over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 4 nT and 12 nT, but has been at 7nT over the past 10 hours (DSCOVR). The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -12 and +8 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-5 (NOAA) and local K index 2-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. A negative polarity coronal hole is currently positioned near W65S15 in the Western hemisphere of the Sun and the associated co-rotating interaction region (CIR) and high-speed stream (HSS) arrived at Earth at approximately 12:00UT on 27-Feb-2019, and we can expect to be under the influence of the HSS for the next few days. The enhanced negative Bz and solar wind speed produced Kp 5 (NOAA) at 00:00 UT this morning (28-Feb-2019).

Geomagnetic activity is expected to fluctuate around active levels, with a small chance Minor storms.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 19 stations.
