The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. A relatively small bipolar sunspot emerged on the solar disc (Catania sunspot group 21), but does not show any strong activity so far. The X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.
No Earth directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the last 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels.
The solar wind speed varied between 315 km/s and 420 km/s (ACE). The magnetic field showed some enhancement with Bz that varied between -8 nT and +9 nT and the total interplanetary magnetic field between 2 nT and 10 nT. The solar wind parameters might remain slightly enhanced for the coming days due to the possible effect of the South pole coronal hole wind streams.
Quiet to unsettle geomagnetic conditions were observed with short period of active conditions, with the Kp index (NOAA) ranging between 1-3 and the local K index (Dourbes) ranging between 1-4 over the past 24 hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 013, based on 20 stations.
