Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The small sunspot region which appeared yesterday (5 August) had decayed by midnight leaving the Sun spotless again. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The earth environment remained under the influence of the high-speed stream (HSS) of the positive polarity coronal hole. Solar wind speed further increased and varied mostly between 690 and 760 km/s from 20UT till 06UT (ACE). By the end of the period, values had decreased somewhat to near 640 km/s. Bz oscillations became less pronounced, from initial values between -8 and +8 nT to between -4 and + 4 nT after 20UT. The interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was mostly directed away from the Sun.

Geomagnetic conditions ranged from quiet to minor storming. Quiet to active geomagnetic conditions are expected, with a small chance on an isolated minor storming period.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 21 stations.
