Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.

No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the last 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels. The Earth is under the slow solar wind regime: The wind speed was mostly below 350 km/s, the total interplanetary magnetic field was below 5 nT, and the Bz component was close to 0 nT with small fluctuations (as recorded by ACE). The solar wind parameters are expected to remain at nominal levels for the next period. A recurrent equatorial coronal hole of negative polarity is now facing Earth. The effect of the high-speed streams coming from this coronal hole is expected to enhance the solar wind on August 27. Last rotation, this particular coronal hole did not produce major enhancements of the solar wind conditions (solar wind speed remained below 600 km/s and the total interplanetary magnetic field was below 10 nT).

Quiet geomagnetic conditions were observed and are expected to remain quiet for the next period and until late on August 26 or early on August 27 with the enhancement of the solar wind condition due to the effect of the high- speed stream from the coronal hole.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 23 stations.
