Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels, no significant flares have been recorded. The Sun remained spotless. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The solar wind speed has remained slightly elevated with values fluctuating around 480 km/s (ACE). The total magnetic field varied between 1 and 6 nT. The direction of the interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was predominantly directed away from the Sun (positive sector). Bz was mostly negative but weak with values between -5 and +3 nT. Geomagnetic activity was quiet to unsettled for most of the period, with an isolated active interval at 17:00 UT Oct 10, as measured by the local K-index at Dourbes.

Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected to continue for Oct 11-12 with isolated active conditions possible on Oct 13, due to the influence of a negative polarity coronal hole which began to traverse the central meridian on Oct 10.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 12 stations.
