Bulletin

The solar activity was average over the past 24 hours. The N0AA-AR 2771 at S18W17 is decaying. A number of plages are present on the solar disk. The X-ray flux reached the B-class level and the solar activity is expected to remain at these levels.

A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) observed in the available coronagraphic imagery on Aug 16th at 18:00UT -which was associated with a plage region on the SE quadrant and a subsequent B class flare- could potentially have an Earth directed component. More will be reported on this issue.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux fluctuated between nominal and moderate levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain nominal to moderate levels over the next 24 hours.

The Earth is under the influence of the slow solar wind streams. The solar wind parameters (DSCOVR) were mostly at nominal values with the solar wind speed around 300-340 km/s. The total interplanetary magnetic field remained at same levels and reached the values around 9 nT. The Bz magnetic field components fluctuated between -6 nT and +8 nT. The solar wind is expected to remain slow for the 24 hours.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet, and quiet conditions are expected for the next following day.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 21 stations.
