Bulletin

Solar flaring activity is very low. The only sunspot group presently observed on the visible side of the solar disc, Catania group 45 (NOAA AR region 2776), was the source of two low B-class flares in the last 24 hours. This sunspot group still has beta configuration of its photospheric magnetic field and it could be the source of low B-class flares and possibly, but not very probably also isolated C-class flares in the coming hours. The only reported CME during the last 24 hours, observed first in the SOHO LASCO C2 field of view at about 09:48 UT this morning, was associated with the flare from the Catania sunspot group 44 (NOAA AR region 2775) presently situated behind the West solar limb, and it will therefore not arrive to Earth. During the last 24 hours the proton flux levels remain at the background values.

During last 24 hours the solar wind speed is fluctuating between 300 and 350 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is presently about 5 nT. The structure observed in the in situ measurements, starting at 15:00 UT on October 15 (reported on October 16), seem to be only the structure in the slow solar wind. The fast solar wind associated with the small negative polarity coronal hole which reached central meridian this morning might be expected at Earth on October 21. The geomagnetic conditions are presently quiet, and we expect them to remain so in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 021, based on 07 stations.
