Solar activity was at very low levels on a spotless solar disk. No significant flares were detected in the last 24 hours and none are expected in the next 24 hours. No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were detected in the available coronagraph imagery.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2MeV electron flux remained under the 1000 pfu threshold and is expected to remain so. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.
Over the past 24 hours the solar wind parameters (based on ACE and DSCOVR) showed a gradual decline due to the waning influence of the faster solar wind which arrived to Earth late on Jan 11th. The total magnetic field varied weakly between 2 nT and 5.5 nT and the north-south Bz component fluctuated in the range -4.8 nT to 5.5 nT. The phi angle remained in the positive sector reflecting the polarity of the coronal hole which currently affects the Earth. The solar wind speed is slowly decreasing towards background slow solar wind conditions with velocities in the range of 400 km/s to 480 km/s.
Quiet geomagnetic conditions were observed over the past 24 hours and quiet conditions are expected to prevail in the next 48 hours with a remaining possibility for isolated unsettled periods.
