Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The visible solar disc is spotless and the X-ray flux is below B-level. The solar activity is expected to remain at low levels over the next 24 hours.

A filament located in the South-East quadrant erupted on February 16 around 14:30 UTC. It was then observed in the SOHO/LASCO coronagraph imagery around 15:30 UTC. No Earth directed components of this coronal mass ejection is expected. No other Earth-directed coronal mass ejections was observed in the available coronagraph imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained under the 1000 pfu threshold and is expected to remain so in the next 24 hours.

Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind speed increased from 330 km/s to 460 km/s. The total magnetic field reached 11.7 nT then decreased to values below 5.0 nT. The Bz component ranged between -9.8 nT and 7.8 nT, then ranges currently between -4.0 nT and 3.0 nT. The solar wind speed (currently around 420 km/s) is expected to remain slightly enhanced due to the influence of the high-speed streams associated with southern coronal hole (negative polarity, facing Earth on February 13).

The geomagnetic conditions over the past 24 hours were active in response to the enhanced interplanetary magnetic field and the prolonged period of southward directed Bz component. Then it decreased to quiet with unsettled periods. Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected for the next 24 hours with possible but not likely active periods due to possible prolonged time interval of southward directed Bz component.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 14 stations.
