Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was low. The strongest flare was a C flare of magnitude C3.7 which peaked at 04:01 UT from Catania sunspot group 81 (NOAA active region 2993). Despite remaining fairly quiet over the past period, Catania sunspot group 81 (NOAA active region 2993) and Catania sunspot group 82 (NOAA active region 2994) remain likely sources of strong flaring. The other regions on disc are comparatively insignificant. A new region rotated on the visible disc in east. It is numbered NOAA active region 2998. Flares at M level are likely with still also a chance for an X flare.

No Earth directed CMEs have been identified in coronagraph data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels. There is a risk of a proton event from Catania sunspot groups 81 and 82 (NOAA AR 2993 and 2994) in the western hemisphere. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold. The 24h electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal levels the following days.

Solar wind continued to be slightly enhanced. Solar wind velocity was around 480km/s with some peaks over 500km/s. The magnetic field magnitude remained stable at 5nT with a magnetic field orientation indicating connection to a positive polarity sector. Solar wind speed is expected to remain just slowly enhanced over the next days.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled locally (local K Belgium 1-3) with some isolated active periods globally (NOAA Kp reaching 4). Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled with isolated active periods possible.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 121, based on 19 stations.
