Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was low. Three C flares occurred. The largest was a C1.9 flare peaking at 10:18UT from the northeastern limb. The others were from Catania group 39 (NOAA active region 3029) (or actually more precisely from a new region that emerged in the same area). The region is a simple bipolar region. X-ray flux is mainly expected to remain below C level with a possibility of isolated C flaring.

SoHO LASCO C2 coronagraph images show a partial halo CME from June 7, 3:48UT onwards. It is directed to the north with an angular extension of around 160 degrees. There is no identified activity on the visible disc that can be related to this, and the CME is expected to be backsided. A filament stretching over the north-western quadrant lifted off around 18UT (June 8). Around 21:24UT a weak front along the north to northeast is visible in SoHO LASCO C2 coronagraph images. It is presently unclear whether this is related to the filament eruption or whether it is backsided. This CME will be analysed closer. No other Earth directed CMEs have been recorded in the available coronagrpah data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels and is expected to remain so. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold. The 24h electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at low to normal levels.

Slow solar wind conditions were recorded with solar wind speed mainly between 300-330km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field around 5nT. The north-south orientation of the magnetic field was variable while the phi angle indicated connection with a negative sector (field away from the Sun). Slow solar wind conditions are expected over the next days.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled (NOAA Kp 0-2, local K Belgium 0-3). Quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected over the next days.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 023, based on 20 stations.
