The solar flaring activity remains to be low, with only few low C-class flares reported during the last 24 hours. In the coming hours we can expect mostly C-class flares while isolated M-class flares are possible but not probable. No Earth-directed CMEs were detected in the available coronagraph observations over the past 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background level during last 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was most of the time around the threshold value of 1000 pfu, and we expect it will remain so in the coming hours. The 24h electron fluence is presently at normal to moderate level and we expect it will stay so in the coming 24 hours.
Earth is still under prolonged influence of the fast solar wind originating from the equatorial, positive polarity coronal hole. The solar wind velocity remains to be rather high with the present value of about 590 km/s, and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is 6 nT. The longer interval of the negative value of the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field, and the high solar wind velocity induced the interval of disturbed geomatnetic conditions around the midnight today. The local station at Dourbes and NOAA reported K=4 and Kp=4, respectively. The geomagnetic conditions are presently unsettled to quiet and we expect them to stay so, altgouh the isolated intervals of active geomagnetic conditions are still possible in the coming hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 123, based on 12 stations.
