Solar flaring activity was at low levels over the past 24 hours. NOAA AR 3081 is about to rotate off the visible disk. NOAA AR 3085 remained the most energetic region, exhibiting growth and producing the largest flare of the period, a C5.0-class flare, peaking at 22 August 14:09 UTC. Flaring activity is expected remain mainly at low levels over the next 24 hours, while M-class flares are possible.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were detected in the available coronagraphic imagery over the past 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours. The proton flux is expected to remain at nominal levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2MeV electron flux was above the 1000 pfu threshold over the past 24 hours. It is expected remain above threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at moderate levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain at moderate levels over the next 24 hours.
The solar wind parameters reflect waning high speed streams (HSS) influences over the past 24 hours. The solar wind magnetic field values were quite stable, fluctuating between 5 and 7 nT, while Bz had values between -1 and 5nT. The solar wind speed slightly decreased down to 440 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was on the negative sector (towards the Sun). Over the next 24 hours, we are expecting this return to background levels to continue.
Quiet conditions were recorded over the past 24 hours (NOAA Kp 0-2 and K Dourbes 1-2). Over next the 24 hours, quiet to unsettled conditions are expected.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 058, based on 24 stations.
