Bulletin

Similar to yesterday, the Sun has shown little activity over the past 24 hours. There are currently 10 numbered active regions observed on the visible side of the Sun. All of these active regions have a simple configuration of the photospheric magnetic field (alpha and beta). Solar flaring activity has been low, with only low level C-class flares recorded in the past 24 hours. The strongest flare was a C3.0 flare peaking at 15:09UTC on December 12th. The majority of the flares originated from NOAA active region 3153, which is now rotating off the solar disk. We expect the solar flaring activity to remain at low levels, with C-class flares expected and with a small possibility for M-class flares.

During the last 24 hours there were no potentially Earth-directed CMEs detected in the available coronagraph observations.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at the background levels, and the greater than 2 MeV electron flux was under the 1000 pfu threshold during last several days. The 24h electron fluence is at normal level. We expect such conditions to persist in the next 24 hours. The solar wind speed is declining and its present value is about 380 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is around 6nT with a variable north-south component. We expect to see continuation of the decline in the solar wind speed.

During the last 24 hours the geomagnetic conditions were at quiet levels. We expect the geomagnetic conditions to remain on the quiet level over the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 165, based on 11 stations.
