Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was low but frequent during the last 24 hours, with 12 C-class flares detected. Most of the activity came from NOAA Active Region (AR) 3194 (magnetic type Beta, Catania group 57) as seven flares were emitted from this region. A further three C-class flares were detected from NOAA AR 3190 (magnetic type Beta-Gamma-Delta, Catania group 48). More C-class flares will almost certainly appear in the next 24 hours, while isolated M-class flares are still possible.

No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) were observed in the last 24 hours. Two CME automatically detected by CACTus yesterday at 02:00 and 19:24 UT are judged to be back-sided.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this threshold during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

The Solar Wind (SW) conditions have gradually returned to a slow SW regime over the last 24 hours. The SW speed fluctuated between 350 and 530 km/s, while the total magnetic field (Bt) dropped from 9 to 3 nT and its North- South (Bz) component ranged between -8 and 6 nT in the last 24 hours. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly directed away from the Sun over the last 24 hours. Typical slow SW conditions are expected for the next 24 hours.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to moderate both globally and locally (NOAA Kp 1-3 and K Belgium 0-3) over the last 24 hours. The are expected to become quiet both globally and locally in the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 163, based on 05 stations.
