Bulletin

During last 24 hours several C-class and one M-class flare were reported. The GOES M2.9 flare (peaked at 01:46 UT on April 08) originated from the Catania sunspot group 50 (NOAA AR 3272) which presently has beta- gamma configuration of its photospheric magnetic field. This sunspot group was also source of all other reported flares during last 24 hours. The NOAA AR 3270 decreased in the complexity of its photospheric magnetic field and it is presently rotating across the West solar limb. In the coming hours we can expect the C-class flares and the isolated M-class flares, in particular from the Catania sunspot group 50 (NOAA AR 3272). Two wide CMEs were reported during last 24 hours, but neither of them is expected to arrive to Earth. The first CME (first observed in the SOHOS/LASCO C2 field of view at 07:12 UT on April 07) had angular width of about 120 degrees and velocity of about 500 km/s (as reported by CACTUS software). From the presently available observations it seems that the source region of this CME is behind the East solar limb. The filament eruption in the south-west quadrant of the Sun was associated with the CME of angular width of about 100 degrees and velocity of about 500 km/s (as reported by CACTUS software). The CME was first observed in the SOHOS/LASCO C2 field of view at about 11:36 UT on April 07.

The small positive polarity coronal hole is presently crossing central meridian. The associated fast solar wind can be expected at Earth starting from the morning of April 11.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at the background levels, and the greater than 2 MeV electron flux was fluctuating around the 1000 pfu threshold. The 24h electron fluence is normal level. We do not expect significant change in these three parameters in the coming 24 hours.

Earth is presently inside the slow solar wind with velocity of about 330 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is around 5 nT. During last 24 hours the geomagnetic conditions were quiet and we expect such a geomagnetic conditions to persist in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 042, based on 14 stations.
