Solar flaring activity was infrequent and at low level during the last 24 hours. Almost all C-class flaring activity took place around NOAA AR 3245 (magnetic class Beta, Catania group 10) with the only exception being the brightest flare of the last 24 hours, a C3 emitted at S29E09 today 07:43 UT. All big AR visible on the disk have now decayed significantly and only NOAA AR 3245 and the new AR at S29E10 are likely to produce C-class flaring activity.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) were observed in the last 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this threshold during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.
A small equatorial coronal hole of positive polarity crossed the solar meridian yesterday. The fast solar wind produced by this coronal hole is expected to reach Earth on 14 Mar.
The Solar Wind (SW) conditions feature a slow SW regime. The SW speed gradually dropped from 470 to 360 km/s during the last 24 hours. The total magnetic field (Bt) fluctuated between 3 and 9 nT, while its North-South (Bz) component varied between -8 and 6 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle remained predominantly directed towards the Sun over the last 24 hours. The SW conditions are expected to remain in the slow wind regime for the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions were globally and locally quiet to moderate (NOAA Kp and K Doubres 1-3) with the exception of an interval of local active conditions (K Doubres 4 yesterday 21:00-24:00 UT). The geomagnetic conditions are expected to become quiet to in the next 24 hours.
