Bulletin

Solar activity remains to be low, with only several B-class flares reported. There are currently four numbered sunspot groups visible on the solar disc. Only isolated low C-class flares can be expected in the next 24 hours. No Earth directed CMEs were observed in the last 24 hours.

The solar wind speed has reached maximum value of about 560 km/s around 00:00 UT on May 07, currently it amounts 450 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is presently about 6 nT. Due to fast solar wind and negative value of the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (down to -10 nT), the geomagnetic storm conditions were reported in the evening of May 06 (NOAA reported planetary K index to be 5 and local station at Dourbes reported K=4). The fast flow from the extended equatorial coronal hole which reached central meridian yesterday, is expected at the Earth on May 09, and it might induce active to geomagnetic storm conditions. The geomagnetic conditions are presently quiet and we expect them to remain so in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 034, based on 22 stations.
