Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been very low. No significant flares have been recorded. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. A partial halo CME was visible in SoHO/LASCO C2 images from 20:00 UT onwards on 2017-Mar-13. The ejection was mostly directed towards the North West and had an angular extent of approximately 180 degrees. The speed was measured to be approximately 300 km/s. The source region is not visible in AIA observations, and STEREO observations are unavailable for this period. The event is believed to be back-sided and therefore should not influence the Earth. If evidence to the contrary becomes available a presto will be issued. The greater than 10MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Quiet flaring conditions are expected to continue. The solar wind speed has fluctuated around 350 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated around 4 nT. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -3 and +3 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 0-2 (NOAA) and local K index 0-2 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. There is currently a small positive polarity Northern polar coronal hole in the Western hemisphere and may increase solar wind speeds later today. However, only a small enhancement is expected. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 18 stations.
