Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The small active region NOAA 2717 (McIntosh: Axx; Hale: alpha) is currently (06UT) located near S06E25, and seems to be dacaying. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed in available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

Solar wind remained somewhat disturbed and enhanced. Wind speed varied between 450 km/s (around 13:30UT) and 350 km/s (around 02:45UT), ending the period with values near 370 km/s (DSCOVR). Bz varied mostly between -8 and +6 nT throughout the period, being predominately positive. The interplanetary magnetic field was mostly directed away from the Sun, until about 04UT when it became mostly negative (towards the Sun). Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions were observed.

Geomagnetic activity is expected to continue at quiet to unsettled levels until 4 or 5 August when a weak wind stream associated with a small negative polarity equatorial coronal hole (CH) may start influencing the earth environment. An isolated active episode is then possible.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 011, based on 23 stations.
