Bulletin

The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.

No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the past 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels. A large low latitude coronal hole passed the central meridian of the Sun yesterday.

The Earth is currently under the influence of nominal solar wind conditions, but will enhance later today or tomorrow. The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 350 and 420 km/s. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 1 nT and 6 nT over the past 24 hours. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -3 and +5 nT (as recorded by ACE). Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-2 (NOAA) and local K index 0-2 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours.

The solar wind speed has seen a small increase this morning which may be the initial signatures of the High Speed Stream (HSS) from a recurrent low- latitude equatorial coronal hole of positive polarity that passed the solar central meridian a couple of days ago, the full effects are anticipated to arrive later today/tomorrow. Active geomagnetic conditions may be experienced as a consequence.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 21 stations.
