The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the past 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels. A large low latitude coronal hole passed the central meridian of the Sun yesterday.
The Earth is currently under the influence of fast solar wind conditions, due to the High Speed Stream (HSS) from a Coronal Hole. The solar wind speed has increased from 380 to 670 km/s. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 5 nT and 12 nT over the past 24 hours. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -10 and +10 nT (as recorded by ACE). Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 3-5 (NOAA) and local K index 2-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours.
The solar wind speed has increased over the past 24 hours due to the HSS from a recurrent low-latitude equatorial coronal hole of positive polarity. Active geomagnetic conditions have been experienced as a consequence. Enhanced solar wind conditions are anticipated for the next couple of days.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 28 stations.
