Bulletin

The solar activity has been very low over the past 24 hours with no significant flares recorded. Catania sunspot group number 28 (NOAA Active Region 2757) currently visible on disc in the north-west hemisphere has slightly decayed over the past 24 hours. Quiet flaring conditions are expected for the next 24-hour period. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery over the past 24 hours. The greater than 10 MeV solar proton flux was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

The solar wind speed was at background level with nominal values, ranging from 300 to 350 km/s (ACE). The total interplanetary magnetic field and the fluctuating Bz component remained below 5 nT with predominantly positive Bz.

The geomagnetic activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours with both local K (Dourbes) and NOAA Kp index ranging between 0 to 2. The geomagnetic conditions are expected to remain predominantly quiet.

The CME observed in STEREO-A on Jan 25 may have a possible Earth directed component. If it were to arrive at Earth unsettled conditions would be expected on Jan 30-31.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 013, based on 14 stations.
