Bulletin

The sun is spotless and no B or brighter flares were observed in the past 24 hours. The chance for a C flare in the next 24 hours is estimated at only 1%.

No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in available coronagraphic imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux exceeded the 1000 pfu alert threshold, with a maximum of 1730 pfu at 21:50 UT on September 13, and has meanwhile recovered to nominal levels. The electron flux is expected to be at nominal levels, with a small chance to reach moderate levels.

Solar wind speed near Earth as registered by DSCOVR increased from about 315 to 340 km/s until 8:45 UT on September 14, when it increased further to current values around 410 km/s. The Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) was oriented predominantly away from the Sun until 19:35 UT on September 13, when it switched to predominantly towards the Sun. The IMF magnitude varied between about 0 and 11 nT, with current values of around 6 nT. Bz was below -5 nT for several intervals, with a lowest value slightly below -8 nT. Quiet to slightly enhanced solar wind conditions are expected in the next 24 hours.

Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes between 2 and 3; NOAA Kp between 0 and 3) were registered in the past 24 hours. Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic levels (K Dourbes < 4) are expected on September 14, 15 and 16, with a chance for isolated active intervals (K Dourbes = 4).

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 002, based on 24 stations.
