Solar activity was at very low levels. NOAA Active Region 2924 (Catania group 1) displayed flux emergence and further trailer spot development over the period. NOAA AR 2925 (Catania group 2) has rotated further onto the solar disk and has beta magnetic field configuration. Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels with a low probability of C-class flares.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraph data.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2MeV electron flux remained under the 1000 pfu threshold and is expected to reach this threshold in the next days. The 24h electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal to moderate levels over the next 24 hours.
The Solar wind parameters reflected a slow solar wind regime. The solar wind speed ranged between 340 and 450 km/s. The total magnetic field magnitude oscillated around 5 nT, with a variable Bz component. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly in the positive sector (directed away from the Sun). The solar wind speed is expected to continue to reflect a slow solar wind regime on Jan 06 and Jan 07. From Jan 08, the Earth is expected to be influenced by the High Speed Stream (HSS) associated with the extension to the southern polar coronal hole that began to traverse the central meridian on Jan 05.
Geomagnetic conditions were quiet (NOAA Kp and local K Belgium 0-2) and are expected to be quiet on Jan 06 and Jan 07. Unsettled conditions with isolated active intervals are expected from Jan 08, due the HSS influence.
