Bulletin

Solar activity was at low levels. NOAA Active Region 2924 (Catania group 1) was responsible for 2 low level C-class flares (C1.1) and has shown further spot development over the period. NOAA AR 2925 (Catania group 2) was stable. Two large active regions are expected to rotate onto the disk on the next days. Solar activity is expected to be at low levels with C-class flares likely.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraph data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2MeV electron flux remained under the 1000 pfu threshold and is expected to remain just under this threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal levels over the next 24 hours.

The Solar wind parameters reflected a slow solar wind regime. The solar wind speed ranged between 310 and 380 km/s (ACE). The total magnetic field magnitude oscillated around 5 nT, with a variable Bz component. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly in the positive sector (directed away from the Sun). The solar wind speed is expected to continue to reflect a slow solar wind regime on Jan 07. From late on Jan 08, the Earth is expected to be influenced by the High Speed Stream (HSS) associated with the extension of the southern polar coronal hole that began to traverse the central meridian on Jan 05.

Geomagnetic conditions were quiet (NOAA Kp and local K Belgium 0-2) and are expected to be quiet on Jan 07 and Jan 08. Unsettled conditions with possible isolated active intervals are expected on Jan 09, due the HSS influence.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 049, based on 10 stations.
