Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was low during the last 24 hours, with only a double C2 flare detected. NOAA Active Regions (ARs) 2924-2927 (Catania groups 1-4), the newly named NOAA AR 2928 (Catania group 5), and Catania group 6 decayed during the last 24 hours and did not produce any flaring activity above B-class level. The double C-class flare was produced by an AR still occulted by the solar limb at N32 (probably the old NOAA AR 2921 returning to view). For the next 24 hours, there is fair chance to see more C-class activity most likely by the expected AR.

Although several Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were detected by LASCO-C2/SOHO over the last 24 hours, they were all produced from an AR behind the eastern solar limb and they are not judged to be geo-effective.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this threshold during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.

The Solar Wind (SW) conditions reflected a slow solar wind regime during the last 24 hours. The SW speed was around 400 km/s over the last 24 hours. The total magnetic field (Bt) ranged between 2 and 8 nT and its Bz component varied between -4 and 6 nT, during the past 24 hours. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun) over the last 24 hours. The solar wind conditions are expected to continue featuring a slow wind regime during the next 24 hours.

Geomagnetic conditions were globally and locally quiet (NOAA Kp 0-1 and K BEL index 0-2). Geomagnetic conditions are expected to continue to be quiet for the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 083, based on 13 stations.
