Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was at low levels. A number of low level C-flares were observed but all originated from beyond the limb, the largest of which was a C2.5 peaking at 22:18 UT. The remaining regions on the visible disk (Catania sunspot groups 89 and 92) were comparatively quiet and stable. A new active region is expected to rotate over the south east limb onto the solar disk in the coming days and may increase the flaring activity. The flaring activity is expected to be at low levels with C-class flares possible and a slight chance of an M-class flare.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraph data.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2MeV electron flux exceeded the 1000 pfu threshold and is expected to exceed threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at normal to moderate levels and is expected to be at normal to moderate levels over the next 24 hours.

The solar wind speed (as recorded by DSCOVR) continued to be slightly elevated, ranging between 430 and 540 km/s. The total magnetic field magnitude oscillated around 5 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field phi angle was predominantly in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun). The solar wind speed is expected to continue to be enhanced on May 02, before gradually decreasing from May 03.

Geomagnetic conditions were mostly quiet to unsettled. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be mostly quiet to unsettled, due the waning influence of the high speed stream.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 030, based on 20 stations.
