Solar activity report

Any mentioned solar flare in this report has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). Because of the SWPC scaling factor, solar flares are reported as 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.

Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity

SDF Number 181 Issued at 2200Z on 30 JUN 1998

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 29-2100Z to 30-2100Z

SOLAR ACTIVITY WAS LOW. REGION 8256 (S24E04) PRODUCED A C3/1F AT 2241Z. REGION 8253 (N17W29) PRODUCED THE LARGEST EVENT IN THE LAST 24 HOURS, A C5/1F AT 0148Z. BOTH THESE REGIONS HAVE SHOWN SLIGHT DECAY IN THE PAST 24 HOURS. REGION 8260'S (S22E44) MODERATE GROWTH RATE SLOWED CONSIDERABLY TODAY. IT IS NOW A 16 SPOT E-TYPE GROUP WITH MODERATE MAGNETIC COMPLEXITY. NEW REGIONS 8263 (S19E67) AND 8264 (N18E74) WERE NUMBERED TODAY BRINGING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SUNSPOT REGIONS TO NINE.
IB. Solar Activity Forecast
SOLAR ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN LOW. REGIONS 8253 AND 8260 HAVE POTENTIAL FOR C-CLASS ACTIVITY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF M-CLASS.
IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 29-2100Z to 30-2100Z
THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD WAS QUIET
