Geophysical report

Any mentioned solar flare in this report has a scaling factor applied by the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). Because of the SWPC scaling factor, solar flares are reported as 42% smaller than for the science quality data. The scaling factor has been removed from our archived solar flare data to reflect the true physical units.

A PROTON EVENT AT GREATER THAN 10 MEV WAS OBSERVED AT GEOSYNCHRONOUS ORBIT. THE EVENT CROSSED THE 10 PFU EVENT THRESHOLD AT 05/1820UT, REACHED A MAXIMUM OF 14 PFU AT 05/1955UT, AND CONTINUES IN PROGRESS. THIS PARTICLE EVENT FOLLOWED A SLOW INCREASE OF PARTICLE FLUXES THAT BEGAN AT ABOUT 0000UT ON MAY 4.

THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD WAS QUIET TO UNSETTLED.
