Solar activity has been eruptive during the past 24 hours, featuring three C flares from NOAA AR 11731, 11734 and new region 11736. More C-level flares are expected within the next 48 hours, with a slight chance for an M flare. In the last 24 hours, the IMF has decreased from 14 to 6 nT, probably due to the influence of a coronal hole high speed stream. Solar wind speeds have ranged between about 460 and 540 km/s, and currently lie around 520 km/s. Bz has been mainly positive, hence geomagnetic activity has been at quiet levels (K Dourbes between 2 and 3; NOAA Kp between 2 and 3) during the past 24 hours. Quiet geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes < 4) are expected for May 7 to 9.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 078, based on 16 stations.
