The Sun produced no C flares during the past 24 hours. B flaring is expected, with a chance for a C flare. A filament eruption took place around 30N 30E around 15:50 UT on July 16. A corresponding CME was observed in LASCO C2 at 17:12. The CME was faint and narrow and directed towards the North. It is not expected to be geoeffective. During the past 24 hours, solar wind speed decreased from about 490 to 400 km/s, while the magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field varied between about 3 and 6 nT. Bz was mainly negative, but never below -4 nT for an extended period. Over the past 24 hours, geomagnetic conditions have been quiet (NOAA Kp between 1 and 2). Quiet geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes < 3) are expected on July 17, 18, and 19.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 054, based on 22 stations.
