Bulletin

Five sunspot groups were reported by Catania today. Despite two of them (Catania numbers 31 and 38, NOAA ARs 2415 and 2420 respectively) maintaining the beta-gamma configuration of the photospheric magnetic field, the solar flaring activity was below the C-level in the past 24 hours. We expect flaring activity on the C-level, with a small chance for an M-class flare. An Earth-directed CME is possible in case of eruption of a filament in the south-east quadrant of the solar disk. The solar wind speed at the Earth is currently around 600 km/s, and the interplanetary magnetic field is around 5-6 nT. We expect quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions in the coming hours. On September 24, active to minor storm geomagnetic conditions are possible due to the arrival of the fast solar wind flow from the small equatorial coronal hole that reached the solar central meridian yesterday.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 077, based on 14 stations.
