Eight sunspot groups were reported by Catania today. Two C-class flares were detected during the past 24 hours: a C1.8 flare peaking at 21:46 UT in the Catania sunspot group 39 (NOAA AR 2422) and a C3.2 flare peaking at 23:47 UT in the Catania sunspot group 37 (NOAA AR 2421). (The latter flare was erroneously attributed to the NOAA AR 2418 by NOAA.) We expect flaring activity on the C-level, with a small chance for an M-class flare. The solar wind speed at the Earth is currently around 460 km/s, and the interplanetary magnetic field is around 5-6 nT. We expect quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions in the coming hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 154, based on 15 stations.
