Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been very low. No significant flares have been recorded. All Active Regions (AR) have shown low levels of activity. AR 2524 (Macintosh class:Eso; Mag. type:Beta) has shown small amounts of flux emergence and cancellation in HMI observations, this may increase flaring activity a little. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. Solar proton levels have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a small probability of C-class flares. The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 400 and 450 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 3 nT and 7 nT. The Bz component was largely positive, fluctuating between -5 and +5 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-3 (NOAA) and local K index 1-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. There is currently a large positive polarity Northern polar coronal hole that has a small extension to low latitudes; this has a small chance of increasing solar wind speeds at the Earth over the coming days. However, the Northern polar coronal hole also has a large extension to lower latitudes in the Eastern hemisphere, which will increase solar wind speeds in approximately 4 days.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 019, based on 22 stations.
