Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. The largest flare was a C4.2 class flare. The C4.2 class flare peaked at 00:38 UT this morning, from a currently unclassified Active Region (AR) close to the East solar limb. AR 2602 (Mcintosh class:Cao; Mag. type:Beta) is currently located near disk centre but appears stable in HMI magnetogram imagery. No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a low probability of C-class flares. The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 650 and 750 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has remained around 5 nT. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -5 and +6 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 2-5 (NOAA) and local K index 2-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. There is currently a large negative polarity Southern polar coronal hole which has moved into the Western hemisphere, the associated High Speed Stream (HSS) has enhanced the solar wind speed at Earth, but is expected to decrease over the next 48 hours. The HSS has enhanced geomagnetic conditions, and is expected to do so over the next 24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 024, based on 08 stations.
