Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. No significant flares have been recorded. No significant Active Regions (AR) or filament channels are present on the solar disk. The greater-than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values. A negative polarity equatorial coronal hole (CH) has reached W55S15.

Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels.

The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 300 and 340 km/s (DSCOVR) over the past 24 hours, with a small increase experienced over the past 6 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 3 nT and 7 nT (DSCOVR). The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -6 and +3 nT, but has been mainly negative for the past 3 hours. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 0-1 (NOAA) and local K index 0-2 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. A negative polarity coronal hole is currently positioned near W55S15 in the Western hemisphere of the Sun and the associated co-rotating interaction region (CIR) and high-speed stream (HSS) may enhance solar wind speeds later today and for the next few days, the increasing negative Bz and enhancements in solar wind speed over the past few hours may indicate the arrival of the CIR/HSS. As a consequence geomagnetic activity is expected to reach to active conditions later today, and possibly persist for the next few days.

Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be unsettled to active from later today.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 20 stations.
