Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The Sun remains spotless and no significant flares have been recorded. No Earth directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed over the last 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values. Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The solar wind gradually increased over the period from 320 to a maximum of around 400 km/s (DSCOVR). Bz varied between -7 and +4 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field was predominantly directed towards the Sun (negative sector). Quiet geomagnetic conditions were observed for the first part of the period becoming unsettled from 6 UT during a period of sustained negative Bz, with the Kp index (NOAA) and the local K index (Dourbes) reaching 3.

Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions are expected to continue, due to the continued influence of the solar wind streams associated with a series of fragmented negative polarity coronal holes.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 18 stations.
